This case study presents “Newman Futures,” a community-driven initiative launched in 2019 to support a sustainable, inclusive future for Newman on Nyiyaparli Country in the East Pilbara.
- Co-designed with Traditional Owners, government, industry and community stakeholders in response to automation and workforce shifts in mining
- Developed strategy across four focus areas: culture & country; liveability & wellbeing; education & training; economy & work
- Implemented 26 strategies and 11 pilot programs over five years to address local needs
- Achieved improvements in health, education outcomes, cultural understanding and community safety
- Launched initiatives include community activation, youth programs, food security, and a student hostel (Martuku Jijiku Maya)
